The Sixties
The range of styles that were worn during this period meant that the types of materials used in shoe manufacture varied greatly. Plastics, leathers, fabrics, cork, wood, and rubber can all be seen in footwear of the day.
Street style, rather than couture, led fashion, and hippies of the day could be seen wearing any style of shoes - as long as they weren't considered stylish by mainstream culture. As a result, fashion houses watched the youth and adapted their styles. As fast as they introduced their new lines, the street fashions changed.
